Time Travel in Canadian Women's History Barbara Ann Scott Wins Olympic Gold Medal, 1948 Step back to the 1948 St. Mortiz Olympics. It was on February 6, 1948 that Canadian athlete Barbara Ann Scott won an Olympic gold medal for figure skating. She became the first Canadian in history to win a gold in this sport.
