Time Travel in Canadian Women's History Bertha Wilson Becomes First Woman on Supreme Court, 1982 Took a while didn't it? On March 4, 1982 lawyer Bertha Wilson became the first woman appointed as a judge on the Supreme Court of Canada. Born in Scotland in 1923, she emigrated to Canada and earned her law degree at Dalhousie University. Madame Justice Bertha Wilson served on the Supreme Court for eight years.
